JBL announces a 60th anniversary edition of its revered line of GTi subwoofers. The GTi MkII Series delivers the sonic accuracy and unparalleled maximum output that made the originals a fast favorite among sound-pressure level (SPL) competitors and sound quality (SQ) audiophiles alike, upon their introduction five years ago. New for 2006 is a stunning polished black finish and custom machining.
“The JBL GTi subwoofers were the first to defy traditional categorization,” states Christopher M. Dragon, director of brand marketing, JBL Mobile Systems. “They were SQ woofers that also offered unequaled maximum output, and they redefined the term ‘high-performance subwoofer.’ The GTi MkII line stays true to its prestigious heritage while celebrating JBL’s 60th anniversary with a gorgeous look.”
Available in 10-, 12- and 15-inch models, the GTi MkII subwoofers handle 3000, 4000 and 5000 watts, peak. The GTi MkII subs are optimized for use in small sealed or vented enclosures – the W15GTi performs flawlessly in a 1.5-cubic-foot sealed box, while the W12GTi requires 1 cubic foot and the W10GTi, a mere .75 cubic foot.
The GTi MkII subwoofers will appeal to both SQ and SPL enthusiasts, thanks to several unrivaled technologies that remain unchanged. JBL’s Differential Drive“ Design (DDD), originally created by JBL Professional and adapted to the automotive environment, offers a one-way linear excursion (Xmax) that significantly exceeds that of competing subs. DDD was an important advancement in subwoofer motor technology for its time. Also, Symmetrical Field Geometry‘ (SFG) technology in this design creates a completely symmetrical magnetic field, substantially reducing distortion at high excursion.
Other unique technologies include:
- NPC spider (a blend of Nomex“, polyester and cotton) for added strength and durability
- Interwoven speaker leads on W12GTi and W15GTi to ensure long life and noise-free operation at high excursion
- Nitrile-butylene rubber surrounds, resistant to UV radiation for durability even in extreme humidity and temperatures
- Kevlar“-impregnated paper woofer cones to provide exceptional strength-to-weight ratio; the material also adds stiffness to relieve stress concentrations that may accumulate under high-power and high-pressure applications, such as in sealed boxes
JTL GTi subwoofers are available in May 2006 in these models and range in price from $399 to $599:
W15GTi MkII 15-inch Differential Drive subwoofer 800 watts 20.32mm 92dB @ 2.83V/1m 3 or 12 ohms
W12GTi MkII 12-inch Differential Drive subwoofer 700 watts 20.32mm 91dB @ 2.83V/1m 3 or 12 ohms
W10GTi MkII 10-inch Differential Drive subwoofer 600 watts 17.78mm 90dB @ 2.83V/1m 3 or 12 ohms
