Boston Acoustics Car Audio Begins Shipping the G5 Subwoofer and GTR Passive Radiator

Boston Acoustics, Inc. begins shipping two new car audio models – the G5 High Performance Subwoofer and the GTR TunableRadiator™.

Offering several first-time features on a car audio subwoofer, the G5’s design allows for installation in small enclosures – only 1.0 cubic feet for the 12-inch model and 0.5 cu. feet for the 10-inch model. The GTR Tunable Radiators provide additional bass without extra amplifiers or enclosures. A perfect complement to the G5, a single GTR increases bass by +3dB.

The G5 features 3-inches of peak-to-peak excursion, oversized 2.5-inch voice coil and Boston Acoustics patented RadiaVent cooling system. The integrated vents and the woofer’s own pistonic action, re-circulates fresh air around the voice coil.

The G5 offers in-field stripping in order to replace a damaged voice coil and woofer cone. The interchangeable SPS (Soft Part System) places the cone, spider, surround, and voice coil on a removable assembly for fast on-site repairs.

Additionally, the patented SureSet system uses standard ATC fuses, allows for simple impedance selection (dual 4-ohm model only) and provides momentary overdrive protection. Spring-loaded input terminals accept bare 8-gauge wire or pin connections.

Coupled with a G5 Subwoofer, the low-profile GTR Tunable Radiator increases overall bass output without additional amplification or enclosure volume, immediately increasing bass output by +3db, the company says Three user tunable adjustments underneath the removable dustcap, reveal precision weights that allow for individual vehicle requirements or musical preferences. The slim mount design is only 2-inches deep and can be placed anywhere.

Like all Boston Acoustics car audio products, the G5 Subwoofer and GTR Tunable Radiator were completely designed and engineered in the Peabody, MA facility and are tuned to +/- 1db of the reference master.

The G5 Subwoofer and GTR Tunable Radiator comes in two sizes– 12-inch and 10-inch. The G5 offers both a single 4-ohm and a dual 4-ohm model.
