From carsound.com SNAPSHOTS The NVE-N872A is Alpine’s new satellite-linked navigation system. Pairing the unit with an optional XM or Sirius Satellite Radio tuner box gives you access to the full capabilities of the unit. When paired with either service (both require a subscription), the unit alerts users to both planned and unplanned traffic situations, such as road construction, accidents, and emergency closures. The unit then allows users to choose alternate routes to avoid delays. Scott Neill, National Product TRainer for Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., answers CAR SOUND & PERFORMANCE’s questions about this useful new unit. What is it? The NVE-N872A satellite-linked DVD navigation system. Where can I find it? At authorized Alpine retailers. Visit the Dealer Locator on www.alpine-usa.com to find your closest retailer. What’s really cool about it? The NVE-N872A is Alpine’s most sophisticated navigation system to date. It can access U.S. traffic information from either XM or Sirius Satellite Radio’s traffic services (separate receiver box and subscription required). Drivers are alerted to traffic situations, and traffic flow is indicated by color-coded route markers, giving users the option of choosing alternative routes if desired. Mapping information is more detailed than previous systems and includes 3D landmark icons and building outlines. The Freeway Junction View provides detailed exit instructions when a freeway exit has forks in the road. The new NVD-A801A software, which is included with the unit, has full U.S. and Canada coverage and over 9 million points of interest. Included in the software is the Zagat Survey restaurant guide, that provides ratings for select Zagat-reviewed destinations. What to tell your girlfriend(s)... “Baby, now you can find every mall in the U.S. and avoid traffic problems on the way. Just call me when you’re done shopping.” Where can I find out more about it?
