The latest addition to Boston Acoustics, Inc.’s G-Series automotive subwoofers provides important continuity in the successful G line. Boston, a leading manufacturer of high-performance audio solutions for aftermarket and OEM automotive systems, home music audio and video systems, and custom built-in audio systems, is now shipping its new G3 mobile audio subs featuring the proprietary Soft Part System (SPS).
Available in both 12- and 10-inch dimensions, the G3 subs feature greater sensitivity, allowing them to play deep and loud even with moderate power amplifiers. The G3 falls between the reference-quality G5 subs and the more affordable G1 and G2 offerings. Like the G5, the new G3 includes SPS — the unique system contains the cone, surround, voice coil, and spider all in one frame, and can easily be removed and replaced with a few simple screw turns. This technology allows for quick and easy repair in the field, system growth, as well as the ability to customize the basket with paint, chrome, or powdercoat to match the installation to the vehicle.
“These new G3s play an important role in bridging the value/performance of the G1 and G2 subs to the near-reference-standard G5s,” says Boston’s Director of Mobile Audio, Leif Blackmon. “They come amazingly close to matching the G5 standard of performance and flexibility by way of the Soft Part System at an unheard-of price point, which means that, as a high-end value, the new G3 range is simply unbeatable. The bang for the buck is outstanding!”
The G3 expands Boston’s successful G-line while maintaining all the 10- and 12-inch mounting dimensions and the exact installation requirements of its G1, G2, and G5 models, integrating the line’s uniquely linear upgrade path from the G1s right through the G5s. Also like its siblings, the G3 comes in four models, with single and dual 4-ohm voice coils available in both 10- and 12-inch sizes. Boston’s SureSet impedance-matching and non-signal-degrading fuse-protection circuitry is also retained, as is the G-Series’ RadialVent cooling design, for enhanced dynamic punch and power handling.
The new models deliver enhanced bass extension and power thanks to 2.5-inch voice coils and 2-3/4-inch peak excursions. Also in common with their predecessors, the G3s are engineered for small-volume sealed enclosures of 1 and 0.5 cubic feet, answering many installation challenges, but are equally adept in high-output ported applications. The G3s also are fully compatible with Boston’s unique GTR Tunable Radiator for even greater SPL outputs. Rugged, high-current, 8-gauge-capable input completes the G3 designs for full performance and long-term reliability.
Boston Acoustics’ G3 10- and 12-inch automotive subwoofers are now shipping.
